  • The idea is born

    Ezra and Sebastian begin discussing the need for transparency in Ezra's tree planting project in Meru West, Tanzania.

  • 2015
  • Greenstand is founded

    Greenstand officially receieves 501(c)3 nonprofit status from the U.S. Internal Revenue Service.

  • 2016
  • First trees are tracked

    Over 4,000 trees were tracked by the end of 2016.

  • 2017
  • First planter payments

    Greenstand pays its first planters for growing trees!

  • Treetracker app reaches 100 users

    By the end of 2017, over 100 users had downloaded the Treetracker app for Android.

  • 2018
  • 50,000 trees tracked

    Throughout 2018, Greenstand verified more than 50,000 growing trees!

  • 2019
  • Android v1.2.5 released

    Greenstand released Treetracker version 1.2.5! The new update included huge improvements in app functionality, stability, and speed.

  • Greenstand presents at the Bonn Challenge

    Andrew presented the Treetracker to the Global Landscape Forum in Bonn, Germany and received positive feedback.

  • The San Francisco meeting

    On May 3, 2019, Greenstand's core contributors finally met up in person! As a fully remote community of contributors, this is an incredibly rare event. Over the long weekend, the Greenstand team worked to develop our strategy, vision, and mission.

  • 100,000 trees tracked

    In June 2019, Greenstand reached 100,000 trees tracked with the Treetracker!

  • 200,000 trees tracked

    On November 19, 2019 Greenstand tracked its 200,000th tree! This is a 100% increase in just 5 months. Check out our Web Map to see more trees!

  • 2020
  • Our token-trading API is born

    In January 2020, the Greenstand team released our first token-trading API within the Treetracker app. This gives app users the ability to trade impact tokens from one digital wallet to another.

  • Fairtree is founded & our partnership is formed

    Fairtree focuses on developing and implementing a direct link to the planter without the need for complicated planting organizational management. This model helps designate appropriate compensation rates for trees of different ecological values as part of the pay-to-grow model that Greenstand utilizes.

  • Greenstand inducted into the Conservation Finance Alliance Incubator

    In April 2020, Greenstand was chosen to participate in the Conservation Finance Alliance Incubator. Our Executive team met with our assigned mentor, David Meyers, bi-weekly throughout the year to accelerate production of the digital tree wallet mechanism, now known as the Impact Wallet, and other core concepts.   • $80k Monday

    On June 22nd, Greenstand was notified as recipients of two separate grants, one from Comcast’s Innovation Fund and one from The Nature Conservancy and World Resources Institute's Reforestation Accelerator program, which added up to $80,000 USD!

  • The Treetracker app reaches 1,000 planters!

    In the summer of 2020, the Treetracker reached more than a quarter million captures &  achieved over 1,000 unique registered planters!

  • #FreetownTheTreeTown

    Greenstand onboards the #FreetownTheTreeTown initiative, a joint effort between the World Bank and the city government of Freetown, Sierra Leone. 

  • Greenstand's mission statement is revised

    Greenstand’s updated mission is to create a global, open-source marketplace to digitally track and compensate farmers for growing individually managed trees to support reforestation and alleviate poverty.

  • Greenstand selected for Trillion Trees Challenge Innovator Cohort

    In August, Greenstand joined the World Economic Forum's UpLink platform, which hosts global challenges to solve some of the world's most pressing issues as a part of the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration. We presented the Treetracker as part of the Trillion Trees Challenge, became finalists, and earned our spot in the Trillion Trees Challenge Innovator Cohort.   • First annual report is published

    In September 2020, Greenstand publishes its 2019 Annual Report, which also summarized milestones from 2017 and 2018.

  • Greenstand partners with Open Map Development Tanzania

    OMDTZ organizes industrial placement in Morogoro, Tanzania around the topic of GIS mapping and the Treetracker app is now one of those tools!

  • Greenstand Growth is launched

    In November 2020, Greenstand launched its first email newsletter, Greenstand Growth. This newsletter provides Treetracker and industry updates, shares volunteer and funding opportunities, showcases events, and generally seeks to engage our networks with restoration efforts each month.   • 500,000 trees tracked

    In December 2020, Greenstand reached 500,000 trees tracked. Next stop: 1 million trees!

  • Greenstand welcomes additions to the Board of Directors!

    In the spring of 2021, we were lucky enough to onboard two new board members: Dr. Tuyeni H. Mwampamba of the National Autonomous University of Mexico's Institute for Ecosystems and Sustainability Research, and David Meyers, Executive Director of the Conservation Finance Alliance. In addition, our existing board member, Steve Ball, now serves as the Chairman of our Board of Directors. Meet the rest of our board here.

  • Presentation to Conservation Finance Alliance

    Greenstand’s Sebastian Gärtner presented to the Conservation Finance Alliance on progress made as a result of the CFA Incubator in which Greenstand was selected to receive mentorship from their Executive Director, David Meyers, over the course of 9 months in 2020. Check out the webinar here!

  • Greenstand becomes a Supporting Partner of the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration

    Greenstand is honored to be accepted as a partner of this exciting UN initiative over the next 10 critical years for our planet!

  • 750,000 trees tracked

    In February of 2021, Greenstand’s Treetracker reached ¾ of a million trees in the database!

  • New Integration with Sadū

    Greenstand welcomes a new third party integration! Sadū allows users to sync their smart watch or enter their last workout directly in the Sadū app. Users earn trees for being active, and then have the option to reduce their carbon footprint by collecting eco-conscious digital assets in the form of Treetracker Impact Tokens.

  • Wallet API goes into production

    On March 20th, we had a Token Wallet party for Greenstanders to inaugurate and test the new Impact Wallet API. About 30 contributors came to this virtual event and received Impact Tokens as a gift for their contributions to the project.

  • Major technical advances for the platform are made

    In March 2021, our Web Map moved over to Leaflet tile server as a more performant solution. Soon after, our team released Version 1.6.2 of our Admin Panel, which included advanced organizational filters, selfie allocation, tree species management and other features that are vital to improving the Treetracker experience.

  • 1 Million trees

    On the 14th of June 2021 Luija from the Fairtree Roots without Borders project in Kenya tracks hits the 1 Million mark. A great example of FMNR.

  • New Partnership with FinorX and Freetown the TreeTown (Sierra Leone)

    FinorX launches a product clothing line with geotagged trees provided as impact tokens for every purchase. Three trees are supported in Freetown Sierra Leone for $6 USD with each sale.

  • Americas Greatest Disruptors - Planet Protectors

    Greenstand gets listed on the newsweek list of Planet Protectors

  • New Greenstand Videos Available

    Greenstand creates and shares three new videos to the YouTube channel.

  • White Paper Draft

    Executive Director David Ezra Jay authored a first draft of the Green Standard Token White Paper.

  • 2 Million Captures mark reached

    Another milestone reached in April. With more than 2 Million data captures we have doubled the data in about 6 months. Lets keep on growing!

  • Treetracker Version 2 is out!

    After a coding sprint with countless hours the amazing engineering team has released the latest version of the Treetracker App. Some of the additional features are a messaging system and the field token transfer functionality which opens up a variety of possibilities of leveraging global restoration.

  • Welcoming the Social Alpha Foundation!

    Social Alpha Foundation "funds those who can imagine solutions for a better future, and build the tools that will take us there." We are excited to announce a generous grant from SAF that will take the Greenstand technology one step closer to a decentralized Green Standard Token model that puts the value of growing trees directly into the hands of those responsible. We are beyond thrilled to welcome SAF to our family of global Greenstanders!

  • Treetracker released on iOS

    After a lot of work from our volunteering team under the lead of Alex Cornforth the Treetracker App is now released on the App Store and data will seamlessly arrive in the Treetracker online Insfrastructure. Thanks again to all the hard work to Remi, Rob, Maxime, Lexie, Clarissa and more.

  • 4 Million Captures thank you Digital Ocean

    With only 22000 captures to reach 4 Million the platform is scaling fast and thanks to Digital Ocean our prefered cloud infrastructure provider we are ready for the next millions.

  • 2023
  • 5 Million Captures tracked

    On the 22nd of February 2023 after only 2 months we have reached the next Million Milestone.  5 Million tree captures in our production environment! Thank you all for your contributions. 

  • New Web Map released

    With the amazing work from our core members Dadio, Ruben, Jafer and many more https://map.treetracker.org/ was released at the end of April 2023 to replace the v1 version of the Treetracker map. A true milestone designed by Patrick Fan. Now we can display wallets, organizational maps and grower maps under one hood. Thank you team!!!!

  • Wallet Admin Client released

    Thanks to the team around Olga, Steven, Pranav, Emmanuel, Suneeth, Shubham, Salman and Daniel we managed to put the Wallet Admin Client into production https://prod-wallet-admin.treetracker.org/ . Well done team!
