Greenstand Becomes Supporting Partner of the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration

Greenstand is proud to announce that we have been selected as a Supporting Partner of the UN Decade on Restoration! Read on to see what this integral partnership will entail.

Introduction

This spring, Greenstand was selected as a Supporting Partner of the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration. This means that we have committed to supporting the Decade’s mission to “halt the degradation of ecosystems and restore them” to achieve policy objectives such as the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals. From the Decade’s kickoff on World Environment Day this June 5th through the end of 2030, Greenstand will form new partnerships, tree tracking projects, and media campaigns that align with the Decade’s goals regarding climate change and equitable community development. Together, we believe that we can continue to scale our Treetracker innovation and create a global standard for planting, growing, and monitoring trees.

Sustainable Development Goals

The 2030 Sustainable Development Goals, or SDGs, are a set of 17 broad goals to guide equitable restoration efforts in the face of climate change. This initiative has been built around the year 2030, the deadline that scientists have set for reversing the impacts of climate change.

Greenstand’s entire Treetracker platform, which consists of our Web Map, mobile Treetracker app, and Impact Wallet, relates directly to 6 of the 17 SDGs.

Goal #1: No Poverty

End poverty in all its forms everywhere.

Goal #5: Gender Equality

Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls.

Goal #10: Reduced Inequalities

Reduce inequality within and among countries.

Goal #13: Climate Action

Take urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts.

Goal #15: Life on Land

Protect, restore and promote sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems, sustainably manage forests, combat desertification, and halt and reverse land degradation and halt biodiversity loss.

Goal #17: Partnership for the Goals

Strengthen the means of implementation and revitalize the global partnership for sustainable development.

Since our founding in 2015, Greenstand has been dedicated to fighting back against climate change and extreme poverty. Our founders were living in East Africa when they saw firsthand the dual struggles of environmental degradation and extremely limited economic opportunity. Our earliest Treetrackers were single mothers looking to make a living and support their families without harming their local ecosystems. As our system continues to scale across the continent of Africa, South Asia, and the Americas, the opportunity to make a sustainable living via the Treetracker platform is being extended all over the world.

Impact Token Raffle

As previously mentioned, the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration will begin on June 5th, 2021, World Environment Day. To help ring in the Decade, Greenstand is holding our first ever Impact Token Raffle! Anyone can register here to enter to win Impact Tokens of their own! Winners will be emailed a direct link to the Impact Tokens they’ve won on June 5th, so be sure to check your inbox! Tell your friends, family, & professional networks about this event & receive an additional 5 Impact Tokens for every referral who signs up!

What is an Impact Token?

Impact Tokens represent the social and environmental impacts of each tree that is cared for and tracked on the Treetracker app. In other words, Impact Tokens showcase the local community that is compensated for growing trees in some of the most environmentally degraded areas of the world. For more details on the Impact Token, our value system, and the upcoming raffle, check out our blog explaining the event!

Conclusion

The UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration encourages everyone in the world to contribute to restoration in any way they can. Greenstand brings the opportunity to not only participate, but to make a lasting change in their local community and to tree growers across the globe. We invite anyone who is interested in helping develop the Treetracker platform to check out our current vacancies. More opportunities to engage with the restoration space can be found on the UN Decade events page. The Earth is our only home, and we are all responsible for taking care of it. We are better together; we are #GenerationRestoration.
